3. How do I set up my FREE Domain Name?

1. Set up Cpanel


So now that you've signed up, you should be in your Web Hosting Manager.

How do I Access GoDaddy's Web Hosting Manager?

2. What is cPanel and how do I set it up?


What is cPanel?

cPanel is a Linux-based web hosting control panel that provides a graphical interface and automation tools designed to simplify the process of hosting a web site. (cPanel – Wikipedia)

How Do I set it up?

After you select Manage, you will be able to set up your control panel (cPanel). This is where you will check your email, install WordPress, and have access to many other cool features. Essentially this is your new Webmaster Dashboard. 

  1. Select your domain name that you want to set up. (this will be the domain name you just registered)
  2. Create a USER NAME and Password for your Control Panel (cPanel)
  3. Click "FINISH"

3. The time has come…it's time to install WordPress


How do I install WordPress on my GoDaddy Hosting Account?

To install WordPress we're going to use a built-in cPanel feature that's essentially going to do the work for us, we just need to enter our basic website information and go from there.

  1. Find the section for "Web Applications".
  2. Select the "WordPress blog" option.
  3. Select "install this application".

4. What settings do I use to Install WordPress?


This is where you enter information specific to your site for your WordPress installation. 

  • If you would like to have WordPress installed in your main / root directory leave the second option blank. (if you want WordPress to be installed on yourdomain.com)
  • If you want to install WordPress in a sub-folder this is the place you would enter the sub-folder information. (if you want WordPress to be installed on yourdomain.com/yourblogsitename)

WordPress Settings

Your Admin Username, Admin Password, Admin Email, Website Title, and Tagline are all things specific to your website.  Also, these are options that can be changed later inside the WordPress Dashboard.

Install WordPress by clicking "install" at the bottom of the page.
